Luke Hines wraps up Production Championship
By Dave Brockman:
After taking a win and a second place at Donington, Barwell's Luke Hines has provisionally been declared the 2003 Production Class Champion.
"Right now every emotion is running through me," he said afterwards. "It's still sinking in, unbelievable. I knew I could do it this round, but until I'd done it I just couldn't believe it. People say the grid's not so good this year but it is - there's three or four drivers out there that if you put them in a super tourer would be right up there in the top 6 quite easily."
Already looking forward to next year, Hines is looking to step up himself. "Everyone's saying things and there's lots of rumours about, but I'm definately going to be in a touring car next year. This year I've loved every single lap, and I've just got so much more passion for tin tops than I ever did in single seaters."
Close rival Tom Boardman, who won the second of Sunday's races, paid tribute to Hines. "Good on him, he's pushed me hard."
Team boss Mark Lemmer was full of praise for his young charger. "The boy's done an excellent job. The car's been absolutely 100% reliable and that's allowed both the guys to do an excellent job. It's given us a great springboard to claiming that independents' title that we lost last year. I'd love to continue the way we've been going - same team, same cars, just up the spec to ETCC."
